What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners can straighten mild to moderate misalignments discreetly and without the discomfort of traditional metal braces. Clear aligner therapy is also often faster than traditional braces, and because you can remove them to eat and drink, many patients find them easier to take care of too!
The Benefits of Clear Aligner Therapy
Clear aligners are practically invisible, so no one will know you’re wearing them. Many patients report that clear aligners feel more comfortable than traditional braces, too. And since they’re removable, it’s easier to brush and floss your teeth without maneuvering around brackets. Call us today to learn more!
The Clear Aligner Treatment Process in Dallas
Step One: Consultation
The first step of the treatment process is a consultation with our Dallas dentist. This helps us get to understand where you’re at and what your expectations are for treatment. It also helps us explain the process to you in detail. Then we’ll look at your x-rays and evaluate your bite to find out if you’re a good candidate for clear aligner therapy.
Step Two: Impressions/Digital Imaging
If, together, we decide that clear aligners are right for you, we’ll take some digital scans of your mouth and start designing a treatment plan just for you! Once we have some diagnostic records and scans, we can make a 3D model and show you exactly what your newly straight smile will look like. After we get your approval, we’ll have your clear aligners custom-made based on your 3D scans.
Step Three: Fitting & Next Steps
Once your trays are ready, we’ll have you back for a fitting to make sure everything is comfortable. We’ll give you your first set of aligners and instructions. Each set of aligners is usually worn for 20-22 hours per day for a couple of weeks. We will periodically have you come in to check your progress, and if all is well, we’ll send you home the next few sets of aligners and repeat this process until your treatment is complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a good candidate for clear aligners?
A good candidate for clear aligner therapy is anyone who has a healthy mouth with no signs of periodontal disease or other outstanding oral health issues.
What kind of issues can clear aligners fix?
Clear aligners correct mild-to-moderate orthodontic issues, including gaps in your smile, minor jaw positioning issues, and slightly crooked, uneven, or crowded teeth. Advancements in clear aligner technology have made them a viable treatment option for more complex issues than ever before!
How do I take care of my clear aligners?
Clean your aligners thoroughly twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and an approved clear aligner cleaner. Rinse them well whenever you remove them to eat or drink. When you aren’t wearing them, make sure to place them in their storage case. Don’t eat or drink anything except water while wearing your aligners, and never expose your aligners to hot water, or they might warp.
How long will I need to wear my clear aligners?
The length of your treatment plan depends on a few things, but the two main factors are how well you follow treatment instructions and the complexity of your case. Some mild cases are complete in about six months, while others can take 18 months or more. We’ll discuss all these factors with you at your consultation and give you an estimated timeline.
